2002 GMC C7500 Recall

Campaign:
02V183000 on 07/22/2002
Component:
Fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:mounting
Manufactured:
05/31/2001 - 08/30/2001
Affected:
222
Defect:
On certain medium duty trucks equipped with 8.1 l engines and left hand or dual fuel tanks, some of these vehicles have a condition where the fuel filter-to-component box mounting bolts are reversed. with the bolts reversed, the threaded bolt end is oriented toward the front wall of the left hand fuel tank.
Consequence:
In the event of a frontal crash, the threaded end of the bolts could pierce the front wall of the fuel tank resulting in flue leakage. if an ignition source were present, fuel leakage could result in a vehicle fire.
Correction:
Dealers will inspect and correctly install the two fuel filter mounting bolts, if necessary. owner notification began august 8, 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or gmc at 1-800-462-8782.
Notes:
Also, customers can contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).
