Campaign:
75V208000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Service brakes, air:drum:chamber
Affected:
1,800
Notes:
Freightliner campaign no fl-0038.stretch cab 1975 built from march 1, 1975 todec.2, 1975.possibility that springs in certain combinations with frontaxle, can be deflected to the extent that the left hand brake chamber can makecontact with the transmission shift bracket when front wheels are in certainpositions.such contact could damage the brake chamber or shift bracket.(correct by inspecting and installing a "preventor" in the form of an extensionto the top of the front axle spring stop on left handside).

Campaign:
76V010000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Steering:linkages:link:drag:connection
Affected:
90
Notes:
Freightliner campaign no fl-0040.trucks.cab-over-engine with garrisonmanufacturing company hydraulic power steering drag link.possibility that thecircumferential weld which joins two parts in the steering assembly wasinsufficiently welded into the tube portion.if this condition exists it couldcause parts of the drag link to separate and result in loss of steeringcontrol.(correct by inspecting and rewelding drag link parts where necessary).

Campaign:
76V174000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Steering:gear box:shaft pitman
Affected:
239
Notes:
Freightliner campaign no fl-0046.white-freightliner conventional modeltrucks.possibility that the pinch bolt that clamps pitman arm to steeringgear shaft is smaller in size than recommended.it is possible bolts could beovertightened and stretched or not tightened enough.either of thesesituations could result in looseness in the armshaft connections.loss ofsteering control could result in stripping of splines with vehicle crash.(correct by inspecting and replacing bolt with proper size bolts).heavy truck.

Campaign:
75V188000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Steering:linkages:knuckle:spindle:arm
Affected:
23
Notes:
Freightliner campaign no fl-0033.truck equipped with white f3w series axles.possibility that the wall thickness is marginal at the area where the holeintended for connection of the tie rod arm to steering knuckle.this conditioncan cause failure of the steering knuckle resulting in loss of steering controlwithout warning to the operator, with possible vehicle crash.(correct byinspecting and replacing both steering knuckles).

Campaign:
77V231000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Steering:linkages
Affected:
670
Defect:
The involved vehicles contain defective ball studs that were improperly heat-treated and thus contain cracks. these studs, located in the pitman arm, could eventually fracture in the threaded portion under the retaining nut.
Correction:
The dealer will replace the defective pitman arm ball stud with a new one, without charge.
Notes:
Vehicle description: heavy trucks.system: steering; ball stud.consequences of defect: loss of steering control could result, causing loss ofvehicle control and an accident.

Campaign:
75V012000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Service brakes, air:antilock:control unit/module
Affected:
20
Notes:
Equipped with kelsey-hayes wheel anti-lock control system.oct.15, 1974 thrujan.7, 1975.possibility of the anti-lock system failure.the computermodule contains a number of pin connectors which may be defective and couldcause a loss of wheel anti-lock control without warning to the driver.such afailure of the system would not cause the "anti-lock inoperative" warning lightto function.(correct by inspectingand replacing computer module with improveddesign where necessary)%r th

Campaign:
75V207000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Trailer hitches:fifth wheel assembly
Affected:
56
Notes:
Freightliner campaign no fl-0037.equipped with asf-400c.possibility thatthe asf-400c taperloc saddle assembly slider may develop cracks in the weldthat attaches the brackets to the slider saddle plate.if this condition existthe fifth wheel could disconnect from the slider plate assembly.(correct byinspecting and replacing saddle where necessary).

Campaign:
74V232000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Structure:frame and members
Affected:
308
Notes:
Freightliner campaign no fl-0030.trucks.possibility that the crossmembersmay develop fatigue cracks in the tow hitch bracing rods.if this occurs itcould allow the tow hitch crossmembers to separate from the bracing rods and/orthe chassis frame members.(correct by inspecting and modifying thecrossmember bracing system).

Campaign:
75V119000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Service brakes, air:controls
Affected:
3,200
Notes:
Truck.manf'd after aug.1967.possibility that fatigue cracks can developin the area of the brake pedal around the pivot pin holes.(correct byinspecting and replacing pedal with an improved design)

Campaign:
78V086000 on 10/11/1979
Component:
Service brakes, air:antilock:control unit/module
Manufactured:
12/31/1974 - 04/30/1975
Affected:
12
Defect:
An operational amplifier in the axle controllers on the involved vehicles may deviate from specifications. there may also be an opening in a solder connection between the printed circuit board and the negative terminal of the capacitor. these conditions cause the anti-lock valve solenoid to be energized continuously.
Correction:
The incorrect controller will be replaced with a new one.
Notes:
Vehicle description: heavy trucks equipped with eaton anti-lock systems.system: service brakes; axle controllers.consequences of defect: the constantly energized solenoid prevents applicationof the brakes on the axle being controlled by the affected anti-lock system.this condition would lead to longer vehicle stopping distances, and thepossibility of a vehicle accident.note: the brake warning light would not be activated if this type of failureoccurred.

Campaign:
80V031000 on 03/30/1980
Component:
Trailer hitches
Manufactured:
05/31/1979 - 01/31/1980
Affected:
1,500
Defect:
Cracks may develop in the truck"s rear towing crossmember which supports the trailer hitch and to which the safety cables are attached. should these cracks progress to the point of complete separation, the crossmember and the trailer could become detached from the truck.
Correction:
Dealer will replace the "a" frames and any other damaged parts at no charge to owner.
Notes:
Vehicle description: trucks equipped with a rear towing crossmember and "a"frame assembly.system: structure; rear towing crossmember.consequences of defect: trailer detachment can occur without prior warning, resulting in a vehicle accident.
