Defect:

Certain yakima mightyjoe 2 and mightyjoe 3 truck-mounted bicycle carriers, p/nos. 8002609 and 8002608. due to using material of inadequate strength in conjunction with the location of the tightening straps, the latch may give false feedback.

Consequence:

The bicycle load arms may unexpectedly collapse, possibly resulting in injury or a vehicle crash should the arms collapse while the vehicle is in use.

Correction:

Yakima will notify its customers and replace the carriers free of charge. the recall began on october 28, 2005. owners may contact yakima at 971-249-7500.
