Defect:

Equipment description: performa and secure-fit infant seats manufactured from january 26, 1996 through july 31, 1997. these seats do not comply with the buckle release force requirements of fmvss no. 213, "child restraint systems."

Consequence:

In the event of a vehicle crash, the buckle may be difficult to release, making it harder to remove the child from the car seat.

Correction:

Kolcraft will provide owners with installation instructions, a replacement buckle housing kit and the tools necessary to install the new buckle.

Notes:

Owner notification is expected to begin during september 1997.owners who do not receive a free replacement buckle housing kitfrom kolcraft within a reasonable time should contact kolcraft at 1-800-453-7673.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.( previous recall number 97e024000)
