- Defect:
- The insulation material between the field effect transistor and ground in the throttle actuator can fail, resulting in an electrical short.
- Consequence:
- This condition can result in an uncommanded throttle condition. under these conditions, without warning, the operator could experience loss of throttle control and subsequent engine acceleration.
- Correction:
- Cummins will replace the throttle actuator on the engines involved.
- Notes:
- System: fuel; throttle linkages and control. equipment description: automotive, heavy-duty, natural gas-fueled engines. the two engines involved are the c8.3-250g and l10-300g natural gas engines. note: owner notification is expected to begin during june 1996. note: owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time, should contact cummins at 1-800-343-7457. also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.
