2016 KYMCO K-PIPE Recall

- Defect:
- Kymco (kymco usa) is recalling certain model year 2016 k-pipe motorcycles manufactured march 1, 2016, to may 25, 2016. in the affected models, the gear shift pattern was assembled in a reverse sequence when compared to the standard setup. as such, these motorcycles fail to comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 123, "motorcycle controls and displays."
- Consequence:
- If the motorcycle shifts opposite of other motorcycles, a rider may be confused and may select the wrong gear, adversely affecting control of the motorcycle and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Correction:
- Kymco will notify owners, and dealers will repair the motorcycles, free of charge. the recall began on july 13, 2016. owners may contact kymco customer service at 1-888-235-3417.
