Defect:

Vehicle description: travel and folding trailers equipped with dexter axles. the wheel bearings used in some of these axles have a metallurgical defect causing early failure.

Consequence:

A wheel bearing failure could result in the loss of the wheel end from the axle increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Correction:

Dexter axle is conducting the notification and remedy for this recall. dealers will inspect the axles and replace the wheel bearings if necessary.

Notes:

Owner notification began during november 1997. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact dexter axle at 1-800-400-2164.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.
