Defect:

Missing welds in the upper coupler assembly can lead to fatigue cracks in the bottom plate of the assembly over a length of time, causing failure of the upper coupler assembly.

Consequence:

This condition can result in separation of the upper control assembly with the potential for a vehicle accident.

Correction:

Dealers will inspect the trailers for fatigue cracks and reweld the upper coupler assemblies, if necessary.
