- The two brackets used to mount the tilt/telescoping steering columns to the dash may experience failure due to fatigue stress; cracks in the radius area at the bottom of the left bracket could propagate upward until bracket failure occurs.
- Consequence:
- Failure of the steering brackets can lead to loss ofvehicle control and an accident without prior warning.
- Correction:
- Install new redesigned steering column mounting brackets.
