- Passenger's clothing can unknowingly become caught in the handrails at bus doors when exiting the bus.
- Consequence:
- When a passenger's clothing becomes caught in the handrail, and the bus driver closes the door and puts the vehicle in motion, the individual is subject to being dragged by the bus. this can result in serious injury or death.
- Correction:
- Dealers will install a block of polystyrene between the grab rail and the step well panel.
- Notes:

- Vehicle description: school buses built on ford and general motors chassis. these vehicles do not comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 217, "bus window retention and release." the rear door must provide an opening large enough to permit unobstructed passage of a rectangular parrelepiped.
- Consequence:
- In the event of a crash, the rear emergency door is narrow, which could make evacuation of the vehicle more difficult.
- Correction:
- Dealers will replace the seat backs on the rear seats with straighter and thinner seat backs, allowing for full access to the rear emergency door.
- Notes:
