1988 MAZDA 626 Recalls (6)

Campaign:
87V149000 on 09/28/1987
Component:
Vehicle speed control:linkages
Manufactured:
07/31/1987 - 07/31/1987
Affected:
400
Defect:
Floor mat could interfere with release of accelerator pedal due to improper shape of mat.
Consequence:
This could result in loss of accelerator control andcreate potential for an accident.
Correction:
Remove present mat and replace with new improved mat.
Notes:
System: floor mat/accelerator pedalvehicle description: passenger cars.

Campaign:
87V186000 on 12/09/1987
Component:
Fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly
Manufactured:
03/31/1987 - 09/30/1987
Affected:
33,868
Defect:
Fuel tank fixing band retention is not sufficient, allowing the band to rub against the fuel tank by vehicle vibrations.
Consequence:
This could wear a hole in the fuel tank which couldresult in fuel leakage.
Correction:
Repair fuel fixing band by installing a rubber sheet.

Campaign:
87V196000 on 01/06/1988
Component:
Service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:drum:shoes/linings
Manufactured:
03/31/1987 - 11/30/1987
Affected:
14,807
Defect:
Vehicles equipped with rear brake drums transported by train may experience separation of the brake shoe from the wheel brake cylinder piston.
Consequence:
Should separation occur, repeated brake operation maydamage the wheel brake cylinder dust boot, allowing water or dust intrusion andsubsequent piston contamination.
Correction:
All vehicles will be inspected and if no separation is found grease will be applied to the component interface to lower friction and avoid subsequent relative motion. if separation is found the wheel brake cylinder dust boot will be replaced.

Campaign:
88V022000 on 03/02/1988
Component:
Vehicle speed control:accelerator pedal
Manufactured:
03/31/1987 - 01/31/1988
Affected:
72,883
Defect:
At ambient temperatures below 0 degree f, frost may accumulate within the throttle body under extended constant speed operation.
Consequence:
Frost accumulation on the throttle valve may prevent thevalve from returning smoothly.
Correction:
Install a new type thermostat designed to raise the coolant temperature and warm the throttle body to a level above freezing.
Notes:
System: throttlevehicle description: passenger cars.

Campaign:
88V063000 on 04/18/1988
Component:
Seat belts
Manufactured:
04/30/1987 - 01/31/1988
Affected:
42,810
Defect:
The drive spring that drives the automatic belt may break.
Consequence:
This would prevent full forward movement of the seat beltanchorage from the lock position when the door is opened.
Correction:
Replace automatic shoulder belt.
Notes:
System: seat belts.vehicle description: passenger cars with automatic shoulder belt.

Campaign:
93V174000 on 10/31/1993
Component:
Structure:body:door
Affected:
244,000
Defect:
Resin molded front handles fail at the door latch actuating rod attachment, freeing the rod to fall inside the door frame. subsequent lowering of the associated window may force the actuating rod downward and release the door latch.
Consequence:
Inadvertent actuation of the door latch causes the doorto open unexpectedly which could result in an occupant falling out of thevehicle.
Correction:
Dealers will replace the door handle/latch assembly.
Notes:
System: structure; door assembly; handle; outer.vehicle description: passenger vehicles.
