1974 MACK RS Recalls (7)
- Campaign:
- 79V134000 on 10/11/1979
- Component:
- Steering:wheel and handle bar
- Manufactured:
- 05/31/1974 - 02/28/1978
- Affected:
- 64,150
- Defect:
- In the involved trucks it is possible the adjustable steering column rear mounting bracket could fail, allowing steering wheel assembly to fall down onto the operator"s lap.
- Correction:
- Dealer will install an additional bracket in this area to prevent the steering wheel from dislocating in the event of a bracket failure.
- Notes:
- Vehicle description: trucks.system: steering assembly; steering wheel and column.consequences of defect: while steering would remain functional in thiscondition, the element of surprise to operator could cause loss of vehiclecontrol and an accident.
- Campaign:
- 78V068000 on 10/11/1979
- Component:
- Service brakes, air:antilock:control unit/module
- Manufactured:
- 09/30/1974 - 02/29/1976
- Affected:
- 9,700
- Defect:
- An axle "no brake" condition could result from an eaton controller internal electrical malfunction. this condition may cause the anti-wheel lock valve solenoid to be continuously energized and prevent the brakes from being applied on one of the axles. as a result, the anti-wheel lock warning lamp is not activated.
- Correction:
- The dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the anti-wheel lock controller without charge to owner.
- Notes:
- Vehicle description: trucks equipped with eaton 21 anti-lock controllers.system: service brakes; anti-wheel lock solenoid.consequences of defect: loss of brakes on any one axle will result in extendedvehicle stopping distances, which could lead to a vehicle accident.
- Campaign:
- 75V060000 on 10/11/1979
- Component:
- Service brakes, air:drum:drum
- Affected:
- 600
- Notes:
- Mack campaign no n/a.trucks mfg'd april 1, 1974 thru nov.15, 1974.possibility that on models with outboard-mounted brake drums and steel discwheel on aluminum wheel hubs, the manufacturing tolerances may cause aninterference problem between the inside portion of wheel and outer edge of castdrum.this condition results in overstress of wheel studs.the failure ofwheel studs could cause separation of disc wheel from chassis and could causeloss of vehicle control.(correct by inspecting and adjusting to precludeinterference where necessary).
- Campaign:
- 73V205000 on 10/11/1979
- Component:
- Wheels:rim
- Manufactured:
- 05/31/1973 - 08/31/1973
- Affected:
- 40
- Notes:
- Mack campaign no sco44.with rim assembly 14qj19305.trucks.possibilitythat the incorrect base rims or side rings of the wheel assembly may have beeninstalled.the operation of vehicles with incorrect side ring or base rimcould lead to loss of vehicle control.rim separation could occur when vehicleis not in operation and cause serious personal injury to anyone in theimmediate vicinity.(correct by inspection and replacing incorrect base rimsor side rings).
- Campaign:
- 75V070000 on 10/11/1979
- Component:
- Electrical system:wiring
- Affected:
- 132
- Notes:
- Mack campaign no k1006.trucks with perlux lamps mfg'd nov.15, 1973 thrujan.2, 1975.possibility that perlux road lamps circuit was wired parallelwith the headlamps.this resulted in an electrical overload and caused thecircuit breaker to cycle or "trip", causing momentary loss of forwardillumination.(correct by inspecting and providing separate circuit breaker toprevent overload).
- Campaign:
- 74V228000 on 10/11/1979
- Component:
- Wheels:lugs/nuts/bolts
- Affected:
- 654
- Notes:
- Mack campaign no 56.model with sws56, sws57, sws76 series bogies, aluminumhubs and disc rear wheels.built 7/15 74 thru 11/14 74.possibility thatincorrect studs were used to attach disc rear wheels to aluminum hubs.if thisoccurs, the studs will loosen and result in failure of the hub, drum or wheeland could lead to separation of the rear disc wheel from the chassis.(correctby inspecting and installing proper studs where necessary).
- Campaign:
- 75V141000 on 10/11/1979
- Component:
- Service brakes, air:supply:check valve
- Affected:
- 935
- Notes:
- Mack campaign no sco-63.trucks mfg'd dec.12, 1974 thru june 30, 1975.possibility that the trailer supply control valve exhaust port was inadvertenlyplugged, and the safety valve on the air reservoir may have been omitted.ifthis condition exists it could lead to intermittent lockup of the trailerbrakes and difficulty in charging the trailer brake air system.(correct byinspecting and installing valve and unplug control valve).
